This website describes the projects in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physical Chemistry at Skidmore College. In general, we are interested in understanding the interaction between solar radiation and atmospheric particles. We study the chemistry of natural aerosols (sea spray, mineral dust) and particles emitted by human activity.
Students in the Navea Research Group learn different techniques to study aerosol surfaces and their environmental impact.
Research Opportunities
Are you curious about how chemistry and sunlight shape the world around us? Our group studies chemistry and photochemistry on surfaces—especially those found in the atmosphere, like particles and aerosols. Undergraduate students from all backgrounds are encouraged to get involved. Research opportunities are available during the academic year and possibly in the summer, depending on space and funding.
Students who have completed or are currently enrolled in Principles of Chemistry or Foundations of Chemistry are welcome to apply. Students who are excited about exploring chemistry or related fields in more depth are especially encouraged to reach out. No prior research experience is required—just curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to learn. If you’re interested, feel free to contact Prof. Navea to learn more about how you can get involved.
You can explore this website to learn more about our projects, or just contact any member of our group.
